My Dad discovered Salvati Distilled Red Wine Vinegar in 1970, and it immediately became our family favorite, as it is the best in flavor and strength. It is the only red wine vinegar I will use. Without it, my dressings, sauces, and all of my holiday specialities would not taste as they should. If I could no longer find it, I would have to make my own version of Salvati, because there is nothing available that can compare.
As family members moved from New York, they were unable to find Salvati anywhere. Each year, I would buy a case or more and deliver a gallon or two to my Brothers and Sisters in the Carolinas, and I always brought a gallon for Mom and Dad in Florida. Now I have retired from 37 years of teaching and also from the judiciary, and live witth my Wife and three Sons in Florida. As there's no one in my family foolish enough to remain in New York, I began to worry I would run out of Salvati and was down to my last half gallon. A web search led me to Piccolo's Gastronomia, and I immediately ordered 2 gallons. They arrived quickly and undamaged. I feel so much better now, having at least one unopened gallon in reserve!
