La Casa Del Grano Sa Fregula Sarda MEDIUM

Sa Fregula Sarda or fregola is a type of durum wheat pasta in the shape of the small, medium, or large round balls measuring between 2 and 6 millimetres, roasted in the oven and served with sauces, in broth, and with various condiments based on meat and fish. The name fregula comes from the Latin “ferculum”, i.e. crumb, fragment.

They can be cooked like risotto, a pasta dish or used as the basis for a soup, and even in a cold summer salad. We can now reproduce the age-old manual procedure in our factory in which the irregular shaped balls are obtained by working the semolina in a terracotta bowl (known as a “sa scivedda”) and then, roasted in the oven.

Great product, coo-coo bananas packaging!

La Casa Del Grano Sa Fregula Sarda is a fine product and is cheaper through this site than any other I can find, or any brick-and-mortar store. It's almost a staple in my household, so I ordered 10 bags. Fregula, by the way, is a corse granular pastini, and is packaged by La Casa Del Grano in a plastic bag.

Why Piccolo's found it necessary to individually wrap these bags in bubble wrap and packaging tape is beyond me. The produce isn't breakable - it could function as packaging itself. The result of Piccolo's over-the-top packaging is that extracting each bag became a dissection project. The consequences of accidentally perforating the bag when trying to remove the tape and bubble wrap was scattering fregula all over the floor. Unpacking this shipment took more than a half an hour. Perhaps next time put the pasta in a box.
