Merro Anchovy Fillets in Olive Oil
Recommended by Bon Appetit, Cook’s Illustrated and Serious Eats, Merro® Anchovy Fillets are an exceptional value. Packed by hand, they are firm and fleshy, with a clean, umami-packed flavor. An essential ingredient of Caesar Salad and bagna cauda, they are also a great way to add umami to stews and marinades without a hint of fishiness.
I love anchovies and was happy to read the results of a blind taste test for anchovies. Merro was supposed to be the winer on several accounts like flavor, texture, saltiness and the amount of bones. I was excited and ordered a case of them. I can deal with small soft bones but these had the kind of bones you can't chew or swallow, you have to pick some of them out. The texture was slightly on the mushy side. The jar isn't vacuum sealed and there isn't a label or and type of seal to let you know if the jar has been opened previously. The only positive stand out for me was the quality of the oil.
Very good tasting, reasonable prices. Came super well wrapped.
